Discover the Natural Splendors of Noord-Holland
Noord-Holland, in the summer months, unveils its stunning natural landscapes that captivate visitors. From centuries-old water barriers to picturesque fishing villages and the iconic Dutch polders, this region offers an idyllic setting for a memorable bike tour.
Centuries-Old Water Barriers
Noord-Holland is renowned for its intricate system of water barriers that have protected the region from the sea for centuries. Explore the one of the oldest still existing water barriers in The Netherlands (dating back to 1200!): the Westfrisian enclosing dike. Cycle along this engineering marvel, marvel at the panoramic views, and appreciate the significance of these water barriers to the Dutch way of life.
Picturesque Fishing Villages and Mounds
As you traverse the Dutch countryside, you’ll encounter charming fishing villages and mounds that have stood the test of time. The historic village of Kolhorn for instance, known for its traditional wooden houses and traditional fishing culture.
The Endless Dutch Polders
The polders, vast expanses of reclaimed land protected by dikes, are quintessential to the Dutch landscape. Marvel at the flat, open fields, dotted with grazing cows and sheep in the summer. Cycling through the polders offers a sense of tranquility and a chance to appreciate the impressive engineering feats that have shaped the Dutch countryside.

Choosing the Right Local Guide
When booking a Dutch countryside bike tour, it’s crucial to find the right local guide who shares your passion for exploration and has a deep knowledge of Noord-Holland. And that is exactly where I come in. I’m born and raised in the top of the province of Noord- Holland (+- 1 hour by train from Amsterdam!) and still live here. This area is found in the West Friesland region, which has a very different culture compared to the lower part of the Noord- Holland province. I love sharing the beauty of my homeland and have done so since 2018 (when I started this travel blog about The Netherlands to help people explore the country beyond the crowds).
Safety and Logistics
As a local I know exactly what the traffic regulations are, which is why you will feel very safe cycling with me. Besides that, cycling safety is also the reason why I chose to only have bike tours in small groups of maximum seven people each day. And, why bike rental is included- so everyone has a nice and sturdy bike that won’t fall apart half way through.
