The Netherlands is divided in twelve provinces. Two of them have the name Holland in them, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland. Our capital Amsterdam is located within Noord-Holland, but the parliament is located in Den Haag, Zuid-Holland.
These two provinces together with the province of Utrecht are the most populated areas of The Netherlands. The other provinces are Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, Limburg, Overijssel, Gelderland, Groningen, Drenthe, Friesland and Flevoland.
Flevoland is the youngest province. This province was completely finished in the year of 1986. Finished you ask me? Well yes. We built an extra province. Why? Because we are pretty good at working our way around water.
All of the provinces of The Netherlands are worth a visit. Every region, even within the provinces, have their own dialects, special kind of foods and history. Some have Dutch mountains (hills of 300 meters high. Compared to -6 meters below sea level, that is pretty high), others have the cutest villages you will ever see and the next province has incredible nature.
Whatever you enjoy doing on a trip, The Netherlands offers it to you. Whether you want to relax or not.
