Today, Terschelling is part of the province of Friesland, and the island inhabits around 4.800 people. Up until 1942 (during the second World War) Terschelling was part of the province of Noord- Holland. Terschelling has been created by two sandbanks that were combined by natural power. The first traces of humans living on the island date back to the 9th century. They say that the island has been inhabited ever since the year of 850, so there is plenty of history around. And, as well as all the other islands, there are enough adventurous activities.
